Curatorial Assistant Haley Berkman leads a tour of As Essential as Dreams: Self-Taught Art from the Collection of Stephanie and John Smither. Self-taught artists tend to lack formal academic training and create works utilizing a variety of materials and techniques. The Smither collection uniquely bridges two veins of collecting, combining strong examples of self-taught art from the American South and from Europe.
