Experience the rich poetic and musical traditions of South Asian Qawwali. Based in the U.S., Riyaaz features musicians from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who come from multiple religious and spiritual backgrounds. Trained in both eastern and western classical music, this ensemble has been performing Qawwali for the past twelve years to enthusiastic audiences around the world. Riyaaz last performed at the Menil during the exhibition Experiments with Truth: Gandhi and Images of Nonviolence. This evening’s program will include new work based on art objects in the Menil’s permanent collection.
