Menil Contemporaries are invited for an exclusive film screening of Un Chien Andalou, directed by Luis Buñuel and released in 1929.
Filmed in Paris in 1929, Un Chien Andalou is regarded as the first film produced purely from within the Surrealist movement and is a landmark in the history of Cinema. Based on an exchange of dreams between the Spanish duo of Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dali, this jolting tale of desire opens innocently with the words “Once upon a time.” What follows is one of the most notorious sequences in film history—a razor severing a woman’s eyeball in extreme close-up. Viewer discretion is advised.
The screening will take place at the West Main Green at the Menil Drawing Institute. Picnic blankets or lawn chairs are welcomed; seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Guests are required to abide by the Menil Collection’s COVID-19 safety protocols by maintaining social distance and wearing a face mask that covers your nose and mouth unless eating or drinking.
