Join us for an outdoor event with Houston-based creative duo Zainob + Mathew Create, on the occasion of their recently released limited edition posters and postcards, Peace for George Floyd. The prints feature an image captured by Zainob + Mathew of the June 2, 2020, peaceful protest in Downtown Houston in memory of George Floyd, and were designed in collaboration with the Menil Collection’s graphic designer, Amanda Thomas.
The event includes two outdoor screenings. The first, Peace for George Floyd, is a short film by Zainob + Mathew Create, capturing the June 2, 2020, Houston protest. This will be followed by a screening of James Blue’s The March, a 1964 documentary film about the historic 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The March is part of the Menil Archives’ film and media collection, and was previously screened by the Menil in 2011 in conjunction with the exhibition The Whole World Was Watching: Civil Rights-Era Photographs from Edmund Carpenter and Adelaide de Menil.
For further information, please visit zainobmathewcreate.com/peace. Zainob + Mathew have pledged to donate all proceeds from sales to Angels by Nature, a local nonprofit organization contributing to the social movement against racial injustice. Items may be purchased and picked up at this event. The Menil Collection Bookstore will display the designed poster in store and serve as a pickup location for items purchased in advance on Zainob + Mathew’s website.
This event takes place in West Main Green, the Menil’s green space adjacent to the Menil Drawing Institute at 1412 West Main Street. Space is limited and registration is required. Please reserve your free spot by clicking the button below.
