Join the Menil for an afternoon of outdoor programs to celebrate the exhibition Enchanted: Visual Histories of the Central Andes.

3:15 p.m.: Welcome Address
Honorable Rodolfo Enrique Coronado Molina, Consul General of Peru

3:30 p.m.: Dance Performances
The Ballet Folklorico “Raíces del Perú” (Roots of Peru) of Houston presents a program of indigenous Peruvian dances with local dancers.

5:00 p.m.: Curator Talk
Paul R. Davis, the Menil’s Curator of Collections, discusses the exhibition Enchanted: Visual Histories of the Central Andes, which comprises more than forty objects from different historical moments of Andean history.

5:30 p.m.: Talk on the Virgin of Bethlehem
Ana Girard, art historian and contributor to the online publication, explores a popular religious icon painting from the 18th century associated with the Cuzco School.

Musical performances by “Leyenda Andina” (Andean legend) continue on the lawn until 6:30 p.m. Food trucks will be on site. Peruvian mocktails from Axelrad will also be available for purchase.

In conjunction with the Menil’s Community Day, Axelrad Beer Garden hosts “Noche de Cumbia” (Cumbia Night) from 7 p.m.–1 a.m. Guest DJs and live bands bring the cumbia rhythm to Axelrad’s outdoor stage. Please visit Axelrad’s website, www.axelradbeergarden.com, for more information.

The program will take place on the Menil’s front lawn at 1533 Sul Ross Street, between Mandell and Mulberry Streets. Guests are encouraged to bring their own picnic blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the performances. A limited number of chairs will be available on a first-come first-served basis for guests attending the talks on the east lawn.
