In conjunction with the Menil Collection’s exhibition Meret Oppenheim: My Exhibition, Lisa Wenger, niece of Oppenheim, joins Natalie Dupêcher, the Menil’s Associate Curator of Modern Art, for a program illuminating the artist’s life and work. Wenger shares memories of the artist and reads selections of Oppenheim’s personal correspondence, which was recently published in a volume titled Meret Oppenheim: Worte nicht in giftige Buchstaben einwickeln (Meret Oppenheim: Don’t Wrap Words in Poisonous Letters), edited by Wenger and Martina Corgnati.

Lisa Wenger is the niece of Meret Oppenheim and, over many years, has collected and copied thousands of letters, notes, and documents from the written heritage of Meret Oppenheim and her correspondents—artists, poets, family, gallerists, curators, etc. She and her cousin Martin A. Bühler are responsible for the Estate of Meret Oppenheim and updating the catalogue raisonné. Following the footsteps of her grandfather Erich A. Oppenheim, Lisa Wenger has been working in the field of personal growth and psychology for 30 years as a teacher, Gestalt counselor, and personal coach, and was the founder of the Italian Hoffman Institute.

This program takes place in the main building, located at 1533 Sul Ross St.
