Member Noontime Talk: Herakles on Ancient Greek Vases

Curatorial Associate Danielle Bennett discusses the life and adventures of the ancient Greek hero Herakles with a focus on two Athenian vases on view as part of the latest rotation in the Ancient World gallery. A demi-god, Herakles is best known for the Labors including obtaining the belt of the Amazonian Queen Hippolyta. Herakles had a number of other exploits such as the struggle over the Delphic tripod with the god Apollo and taking part in the battle between the Olympian gods and the giants. Join us to learn more about the surprising slayings, atonements, and marriages of Herakles.

Held on Fridays for a small group, Member Noontime Talks make exhibitions more intimate and reveal the collection as never before. To sign up, please RSVP to membership@menil.org. If you are not currently a Menil Member, you can learn more and join here.
