In conjunction with Joe Overstreet: Taking Flight, Dr. Richard Hylton, Lecturer in Contemporary Art, School of Arts & Department of History of Art and Archaeology at the University of London, and contributor to the exhibition catalogue, discusses how Overstreet’s work intertwines abstraction with themes of liberation and the Black Diasporic experience and positions abstraction as a tool for social and political commentary.
